If you are driving along a freeway and see a sign for a fuel station up ahead, do you pull off and fill up your car even if it still ¾ full? Or do you check your car’s fuel gauge to see if you need petrol or not? This scenario is a great analogy to non-hungry eating, which I heard while recently watching a fascinating webinar by Dr Michelle May, ‘Am I hungry’.
Are you overeating due to non-hungry eating (i.e. filling up the petrol tank when it is still ¾ full)? Try this, for one week, whenever you are about to eat, pause and ask yourself “am I hungry?” Are you eating for fuel or other needs (e.g. pleasure, emotions)?
