Thanks CrossFit Ballina for having me present last night! An Overview of my Nutrition Seminar:
- We are what we eat: why healthy eating matters.
- Regardless of which ‘diet’ you choose, my 7 Positive Steps to staying lean by eating clean:
- Eat more Free Vegetables & Salad
- Include Healthy fats
- Good quality proteins for lean muscle mass, satiety, maintaining metabolic rate
- Watch the Carbs: for Quality & Quantity.
- Include Probiotics for gut health
- Avoid/Limit processed foods. What to look for when reading Labels
- Water is the best drink!
- What a healthy meal looks like (macronutrient distribution)
- Strategies for weight loss: Snacks, Post Resistance Training Snacks
- Mindful eating
- Sustainable, long term change. Most important!
Any ‘diet’ or ‘clean’ way of eating that YOU can maintain long term is the best ‘diet’ for YOU.
Snap shot from the Seminar: ‘A Word About Added Sugar’
- Avoid adding sugar (any form – honey, maple syrup, rice malt syrup) to foods and drinks on a daily basis.
- Sugar is Sugar in my opinion, no forms are significantly better for you than others.

- http://foodwatch.com.au/blog/carbs-sugars-and-fibres/item/48-shades-of-hidden-sugars.html for a great summary on different types of sugar.
- If you currently do add sugar, cut back gradually, you get used to it! E.g. from 2tsp in coffee to 1.5tsp in coffee for 1 week, then to 1tsp in coffee for another week, and then to 1/2tsp in coffee.
- However, for long term sustainability you can include ‘sweet treats’ as long as you eat them mindfully! (more on this later)
